If you are decorating your first home, finding your style may seem daunting. When choosing statement pieces, always pick ones that will bring you joy when you enter the room.

Moreover, you will want to think about which accessories will uplift the feeling of your space. On top of this, look at colours and patterns that you like and start to bring them into your décor. Slowly but surely.

Your style can be a mixture of things, you don’t always have to limit yourself to one particular trend. At Rockett St George, we love eclectic interiors that mix a range of designs from vintage to contemporary and more.

Additionally, when you are looking out for furniture or accessories, remember to think outside the box. Think about what items would complement your existing pieces and what new purchases could become the fabulous focal point of your new interior.

If you are an avid shopper, collector or bargain hunter, buying for collections will come naturally to you. However, if you are trying to build up your collections of treasures, mementoes and trinkets in your new home, here are some tips on how to do so.

One Of A Kind Ornaments

When decorating your first home, you will want to build up the show-stopping pieces that make the space so special to you.

Almost anything can be turned into a much-loved adornment within your home. So when you are visiting charity shops, car boot sales and looking online, remember to keep your eye out for those one of a kind pieces.

Quirky ornaments are a great way to start curating style spots throughout your home. Additionally, if you own something or find an item that means something to you, don’t hesitate to incorporate it into your interior.

Curating A New Collection

Sometimes, you can curate a collection from something so unexpected. Perhaps you have a collection of unusual glassware, retro cameras or even vinyl records that you never knew could bring personality to your scheme. By grouping these items together in your home, you will be able to visualise them in a whole different way.

Furthermore, this is an opportunity to really get creative with how you display your collectables, as they are totally unique to you. Pick a shelf, wall, cabinet or console table and start to showcase your mementoes and beloved trinkets to really bring character to your home.

Upcycling Existing Pieces

To introduce a fabulous allure to a first time home, why not consider adding a personal touch to an existing piece. Upcycling is a great way to give a new lease of life to old furnishings or simply put your mark on a design.

Upcycling Furniture

If you have picked up an old piece of furniture that you see potential in, there are many things you can do to repurpose it.

For example, if you have a chest of drawers, why not paint it a chic colour, add a beautiful stencil to the design or free paint over the wood. It’s these little touches which will bring a glorious edge to your space that dares to be different.

On top of this, you could do the same with wooden chairs, stools, dining tables and more. Remember that any piece of furniture can be restyled to suit your personality, so it’s a chance to really get creative.

Creating Your Own Unique Piece

On top of upcycling, why not create your own unique piece?! There are so many things you can do to craft something that will bring charm to your interior.

For example, you could make your own art print. You could do this by collaging marvellous mementoes and keepsakes together onto a board and framing it.

Moreover, consider recycling old fabrics into a striking cushion or use wallpaper offcuts to line a cabinet. On top of this, if you have an old piece of wood or plasterboard, you could create your own typography sign. We love a playful phrase or a magnificent motif!

We hope that this guide on first home decorating tips has given you the means to start building up your own delightful collection of interiors. Don’t forget to think outside of the box and dare to be different with your divine new space. And most importantly - have FUN with your interiors!
