Swap out lighting fixtures

There's nothing that screams 'style' more than a statement lighting fixture - by swapping out that lampshade you've had up for the past 10 years and replacing it with a natural rattan lampshade or a stunning modern chandelier, you create a striking focal point.
Or perhaps that simple floor lamp in the corner can be replaced by a beautiful floor lamp with an eye-catching design, such as a sleek tripod base or a sculptural silhouette.
Dotting about a few table lamps can also help you to create that warm layered lighting effect whilst also adding a bit of interest - perhaps with a bobbin style or rustic stone globe base.
Add texture with houseplants

Adding large plants to your space is like inviting a burst of personality and style, indoors. They infuse your room with texture and a vibrant, outdoor freshness, instantly making it feel more alive and welcoming.
Layering plants throughout the room with tall standing plants, hanging plants placed on shelves and smaller succulents dotted on tables you can create a totally dynamic space.
Now, if you adore the charm of a beautifully arranged vase of flowers gracing your dining table but cringe at the thought of replacing them every week, fear not! Consider opting for dried flowers instead. They maintain that natural touch and burst of colour in your home, lasting for years to come, all without breaking the bank.
Our designers can help you manage your budget, helping you to transform your space without blowing the bank. Start filling out our easy brief:
Change up textiles

Soft furnishings are super easy to swap out and can be done without breaking the bank either.
For instance, cushions and throws can add so much more dimension to a sofa or bed, creating a cosier atmosphere and the pillowcases can be changed up throughout the seasons, giving your space a fresh vibe in spring and summer, and a warm, inviting feel in autumn and winter.
When picking cushion cases, go for ones with different textures. It's all about that mix-and-match vibe to create a dynamic look!
And don't forget bedding – it's another affordable way to give your room a makeover. Whether you're into crisp, white waffle duvet covers or bold, bright sets, your bedding choice can really add luxury to your bedroom.
Oh, and let's not overlook rugs! Rugs are a must have finishing touch for our design team. Affordable ones can still work wonders, adding layers and textures that completely revamp and add warmth to your space.

Shop your own home

Sometimes, the best pieces are right under our noses. By "shopping your own home" you may just rediscover hidden gems which could make so much more impact somewhere else in your home.
That lamp that's been tucked away in a corner? It might just be the perfect addition to your bedside table. Or that cosy throw you keep in the living room? It could add a touch of warmth to your reading nook.
By simply rearranging and repurposing items you already own, you can breathe new life into your space without spending a dime.
Refresh the kitchen

If your kitchen just doesn't scream you, but a full remodel feels out of reach, there are plenty of wallet-friendly tweaks that can completely revamp the space.
Let's start with the backsplashes. By swapping them out, you're not just updating the look – you're infusing the kitchen with your own unique style. Whether you opt for subtle tonal shades or bold, eye-catching tiles, it's a budget-friendly way to make a big impact.
Now, onto those cabinets! A fresh coat of spray paint in your favourite colour can work wonders, giving them a fresh new vibe. And don't forget the hardware – switching out the handles for something completely different can instantly elevate the look.
If you're installing a new kitchen, then the design above proves you don't always need to splurge on cabinets. Designer Lucy sourced the cabinets from Ikea but by styling them with intricate handles, matt black taps and stylish backsplashes and countertops, she created a luxury look.
For an extra dose of personality, consider swapping some upper cabinets for floating shelves; they give you a chance to showcase your favourite cookbooks, glassware, and plants, adding a natural, organic feel to the space.
If you want to fully transform your kitchen whilst maximising every penny, start working with our designers today:
Get creative with paint

There is just so much you can do with paint and it's very affordable.
Refreshing your walls with a new colour can have a drastic effect on the space making it feel lighter and brighter or more dramatic and cosy. Pick a shade that speaks to you but also consider factors like the size of the room and the amount of light it gets.
If you're stuck for colour ideas, check out our dedicated guides for these rooms: Living Rooms, Bedrooms, Hallways.
By using paint sparingly, you can make the tin last and create a more exciting look. For instance, half-painted or three-quarter-painted walls can create so much visual interest, allowing you to use more bold or vibrant colours without overwhelming the space.
Painted ceilings can also have a dramatic effect, helping to create a cosier and intimate feel in the room whilst also creating a real wow-factor moment!
You can really think outside the box when it comes to paint, perhaps only try painting the skirting board and picture rails a bold shade or highlighting features like radiators with a vibrant colour!
Adding character with panelling

Panelling adds a touch of timeless elegance and architectural interest to any space - and it may not be as expensive as you think!
With panelling kits starting from around £20, as long as you're prepared to get your DIY on, you can have a stunning feature in your space for an affordable price.
From shaker style to wainscoting - panelling can create that luxury look in your home at a budget-friendly price.

Gallery walls bursting with personality

If you feel your walls are looking a little bare but you're unsure of a cost-friendly solution to spruce them up, we have an idea for you.
A gallery wall is such a creative way to express your style and personality, plus it can be created on the cheap.
First up, look at your existing prints, photos and artwork - do you have enough to get started? If not, posters that feature similar shades or patterns can be a really affordable way to develop a similar vibe.
Next up - frames. Now, matching frames are great for that sleek look, but if you're looking to save a few pennies, why not go all out eclectic with mismatched frames? This way you can utilise all the different frames you already own, or shop second-hand for some beautifully unique frames that won't break the bank.
Hang mirrors

If you have a room that feels a little tight for space, then we have a budget friendly hack for you: mirrors!
Strategically placed mirrors can make a room appear larger and brighter by bouncing light around the room.
A large mirror can also be a cheaper alternative to a big piece of artwork - having that same jaw-dropping effect without the price tag.
Picture this: a chic circular mirror hanging above your fireplace, adding a touch of whimsy and charm. Or how about a dramatic arched mirror jazzing up your hallway? It's not just about aesthetics – it's also a prime spot for a quick outfit check before you strut out the door!

Get your DIY on

In the world of Interior Design, there is so much you can do yourself to save some pennies.
Looking for a fun date night or evening with friends? Why not have a go at creating your own artwork which will hold so many more memories than a print you buy online?
Or how about building your own shelves using inexpensive materials like reclaimed wood or metal pipes? Not only does DIY shelving provide extra storage, but it also adds a little visual interest to your walls.
You can even have a go at upcycling some furniture - giving existing or second-hand pieces a new lease of life. With a little sanding, polishing or painting you can have a piece that is totally unique and oh-so stunning.
Save whilst you shop

There are so many places you can shop for furnishings and décor to stay on a budget.
As we've mentioned, second-hand pieces can add so much charm at half the price, browse Facebook Marketplace, charity stores or Car boot sales to snag some deals.

Go eclectic
We're here to tell you that not all your furniture has to match - and instead by going for a more eclectic, country or industrial aesthetic, you can create a much more unique space which is also so much more affordable.
Buying a brand new dining table with 6-8 matching chairs is bound to hurt the bank a little, so why not instead shop around on sales or second hand and have the eclectic mismatched look?
Though this may sound like a design disaster, when pulled off right, it can be a design delight! We recommend starting by anchoring the space with a unifying element like a cohesive colour palette or material and then start sprinkling in pieces from different styles.
Our designer's 70/30 rule can come into play here, where 70% of your space can be dominated by one style, colour or material of furnishing and the other 30% is there for you to go a little wild!
